Startups – Make Marketing a Priority in 2013

You’ve started a business and you have a great idea; now don’t forget to be passionate about marketing it.  Yes resources and funds may be limited but all too often entrepreneurs give little to no thought about a marketing strategy.

In 2013 it will be important to make marketing a priority. And by marketing strategy, I am not referring to creating a website and twitter account. Content marketing may have been the buzz word in 2012 but it will continue to play an important role in 2013. Compelling content will be valuable as a startup begins to build its brand.

As you think about developing a marketing strategy, consider your market, who your target customers are and which channels will be best to reach them.  A marketing strategy doesn’t have to involve a dozen or so campaigns and activities. Start small and focus on a specific niche or segment, then expand your strategy.

Lastly, understand that change is inevitable whether you are a startup or an established business. The ability to adapt your marketing plans and be flexible is key to the success of any strategy.  So commit to marketing this year and see how a focused strategy can help propel your business to success.
