Twitter users now have the option to edit their tweets with a monthly subscription to Twitter Blue. For $4.99/month, users can make edits such as revising an original tweet, fixing a typo in a quote tweet, tagging an account, or reordering attached media.
With Edit Tweet, users have 30 minutes to update a tweet, which can be edited up to five times within the 30-minute window. An edit history will also be shown. Currently, twitter polls, retweets, and replies cannot be revised with Edit Tweet.
Keep in mind, Twitter Blue’s Edit Tweet feature is different than its Undo Tweet feature when it comes to when users can make changes to a tweet. While Undo Tweet offers the ability to preview and change Tweets before they’re public, Edit Tweet allows users to update a Tweet after it’s published. Another difference is the Undo Tweet time limit, which defaults to 30 seconds but can be adjusted to 60 seconds, 20 seconds, 10 seconds, or 5 seconds to revise a tweet before it goes live.
What does this mean for businesses and brands?
With the option to correct typos, update tags, and revise media attachments, businesses and brands can have greater control over their messaging and avoid potential PR faux pas. Sure – without Twitter Blue, tweets can simply be deleted and crafted again, but any likes, shares, or comments the tweet has garnered would be deleted as well. For less than five dollars a month, the peace of mind and flexibility that Twitter Blue provides just may be worth every penny.
