A commitment has finally been made to commemorate the late great Kobe Bryant with a statue outside of the Crypto.com Arena in LA according to DailyMail.com. In addition to Kobe, his daughter Gigi Bryant will also be featured alongside him as tribute.
The design of the statue, paying homage to his iconic jersey numbers 8 and 24, is set to be unveiled by the Lakers on the significant date of August 8, 2024.
There was a statue commemorating Kobe Bryant and Gigi at the site where the tragic plane crash took place in Calabasas by West Hills artist, Dan Medina. The statue features Kobe in a Lakers jersey with his arm around Gigi. The base of the statue features all the names of those who passed away in the crash along with the inscription, “Heroes come and go but legends are forever.” However, the statue is not permanent.
Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s widow, is involved in the planning of this tribute. The artist responsible for creating this statue has not been selected just yet. I would imagine Dan Medina is in consideration, considering the great work he did of the statue over the Calabasas peak.
It was expected that the statue would come in 2024 to coincide with a fitting tribute to Kobe’s jersey numbers. The statue coming to the Crypto.com Arena is a long time coming for Lakers fans and basketball fans in general and serves as a well-deserved acknowledgment to one of the best to ever do it.
As if there is not enough of a reason to go to Lakers games these days, this gives fans even more of an incentive to make their way to the arena to go check out the statue once it is unveiled before the 2024 season kicks off.
