It’s all starting to make sense now as to why Elon Musk wants to meet Mark Zuckerberg in the octagon.
Meta’s new app, Threads, has been built by the Instagram team for users to share text updates and join in on conversations. The app surpassed over 70 million sign-ups in its first 48 hours and reached over 109 million subscribers in its first seven days.
“Threads reached 100 million sign ups over the weekend,” said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a post on the new social media platform. “That’s mostly organic demand and we haven’t even turned on many promotions yet. Can’t believe it’s only been 5 days!”
Matthew Prince, the Co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare pointed out over this past weekend that Twitter traffic has been down with the emergence of Threads.
Brands have started to flock to the social media platform. Wendy’s has over 260,000 followers and continues to roast competitors and bots. National Geographic can also be found on Threads and has built a strong following of over five million users.
Threads is garnering a lot of early success, but like everyone else, we’ll be watching to see if this success can be maintained. One flaw that has been pointed out already is that Threads users cannot delete their account unless they delete their entire Instagram account. While there have been a lot of signups already, it’ll be interesting to see the number of active users a couple of months down the line.
