Promotions for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie, set to debut on July 21, 2023, have taken social media by storm. Earlier this week, the release of the official trailer was accompanied by 24 character posters that have since become the Internet’s latest viral meme.
The posters instantly took over Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok feeds – making everyone want to see themselves in Barbieland. Thanks to the Barbie Selfie Generator, social media users were able to do just that. Thousands of people have used the AI generator to create their own Barbie, or Ken, poster by uploading a photo, adding a sparkly background, and choosing a witty tagline. Others used the generator to poke fun at other celebrities.
By leveraging social media, the movie has been able to generate buzz and excitement with a wider audience than expected. It has also benefited from a ton of free marketing. The hashtag #barbiemovie has over 92K posts on Instagram while the trailer received over 29M views on Twitter.
