The Super Bowl is here and we will see if Bill Belichick will win his fifth championship in seven tries as a head coach.
Whether you like him or not, Belichick is a coaching genius. He also knows a thing or two about staying on message, especially during media interviews and press conferences. And he seems to take the same approach after wins, losses and controversies such as Deflategate.
Handle the media like Belichick
After watching his opening night press conference on Monday night, here are a few takeaways:
- Stay focused – listen to the questions
- Give succinct answers – terse responses keep things tight
- Stick to the facts – be direct and provide an answer based on the facts
- Remain calm – don’t get emotional
As a New England Patriots fan, I have experienced many Belichick media scrums. He certainly does not have a flair for the dramatic, but his preparation on and off the field is exemplary.
Win or lose on Sunday, we can expect to see his mastery at work during the post-game interview.
